New Furniture - Second Wave
Feb. 3rd, 2006 12:46 pmOK. So. Let me sum up where we're at with the furniture situation right now. The couch was delivered a couple weeks ago. It was missing 2 middle-front legs, and possibly also a center-center leg. We called the service center and explained the situation, gave the couch number that was located on the bottom of it so they could send the right parts and everything.
This past weekend, the legs arrived. They did not fit. They were the WRONG PARTS. We took a bunch of pictures of the upturned couch to show where there were missing legs, and also demonstrated with pictures how the new ones mailed to us would not work on this model. The intention was to show these to someone, anyone, who might be able to help us. We might not have to, but maybe I'll upload some just to kind of show what the problem looked like.
Early this week, I got a voicemail from Slumberland stating that our loveseat and coffee table were now in the warehouse, and they could be delivered this week on Friday. I was not happy about this, as we both WORK during the day, but if we wanted to get a weekend delivery it would be almost another 3 weeks before they could arrange that! Grr. So I agreed to work from home this morning and wait for the delivery between 9:30 and 11:30 (I really hate those "windows" they give. I wish they could just schedule a solid time and I could plan for it. I rather dislike working from home. Feels icky. At least I have that option, which is better than just NOT working all morning.)
So I was at home, waiting for the delivery guys. They showed up at maybe 10 or 10:30 am, and brought in the loveseat. Good. They went back to the truck to assemble the coffee table. Then one of them came back into the house and said he needed me to come out to the truck and look at something. Being as paranoid as I am, for a split second I thought I was being asked to walk willingly into my own abduction and rape - LOL! But then he explained that the coffee table had a big crack in it and probably wouldn't assemble very well, and he wanted my confirmation that I did NOT want that piece, so they could bring me another one instead. It was really busted up on one corner all right. Bad. The main guy said that the bad table, and the couch with missing legs that I showed him, were results of all the furniture not being built in the USA anymore. He said that we get this shoddy Chinese stuff which is just cheap and badly made.
He was really nice and helpful though. He helped me flip the couch up so he could take a look at where the legs were missing, and he said that the legs that had been sent to me were for the rocker-recliner chair, not the reclining sofa. He told me he'd put in word with the warehouse to have the correct legs sent to me, and they are going to deliver a non-busted coffee table too, since there are a whole bunch of them available in the warehouse now.
So far, this whole experience has been just super annoying. It's been going on for far too long. I just want to get my couch with ALL PARTS, my loveseat, and my non-busted coffee table and be DONE with it! I'm not sure if this is just a pile of bad luck that happened to befall me, or if it's a typical Slumberland thing. I know people who have bought from Slumberland and never had any of this kind of trouble... Then again, maybe that was before all the stuff was being built in China! LOL
