OK, I know this belongs in my knitblog, but I'm putting it here too because I like it.

I can't find a SINGLE pair of scissors in this house. And I can't find my Swiss Army Knife either. I was JUST using the little Swiss Army Knife Scissors last night, and now I can't find it. It's on my big keyring, so obviously I can't find ANY of my keys. And Jon just left to go rearrange servers at the office.

I am trapped here with no keys, no scissors, and a gauge swatch (tube) for Soleil that I REALLY WANT TO BIND OFF AND WASH!

Gah.

I should go look in my knitting box again. I swear I thought I tossed at least one pair of my scissors in there when I was packing...

Six minutes later...
*Kicking self* OK, so they were on the bathroom counter. I don't know how they got there, or why I would have put them there, but at least I found my keys, Swiss Army Knife (and tiny scissors) included.

OK, when I was in Devils Lake I was trying to find a couple of pictures that would show how blocking lace drastically changes/improves its appearance after you are done knitting it. Well yippee doo-dah day, I found 'em! Someone posted some great before-and-after blocking photos to the [livejournal.com profile] knitting community, in this entry (just scroll down a teeny bit to see them both.)

So beautiful!!

And that's the kind of transformation my Peacock Feathers Shawl will go through after I knit it up. Wheee, I'm so excited!!!

5/4-06: EDITED TO ADD - OK, here are some even better pictures. Gorgeous!

OK, just a shameless plug of my Knitting Blog here. I refrain from posting any knitting-related content in my LJ anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't want all my friends to stop caring about my favorite hobby involving sticks and strings!

Go see what I've been up to! Make suggestions! Want me to knit you something? I'll do it! (Just as soon as I get around to it!) ~_^

Please participate. I can't think for myself.

What should I knit next?

Thank you to all who participated. The survey is now closed.

It has occurred to me that I don't update my LiveJournal as much as I used to... part of this has to do with how much I have going on at work, and whether I can find a few minutes to take a break and do some blogging... but MOSTLY I think it's because I've got mostly knitting-related stuff that I want to blog about, and that usually ends up in my Knitting Blog.

It's getting a little weird how much I knit, and think about knitting, and read about knitting, and talk about knitting, and write about knitting. I don't know if I'm technically addicted to my hobby, but I'm definitely WAY into it. Way way WAY into it.

I am proud that I'm not one of those people with a ridiculously huge "stash" of yarn, and I don't have a ton of UFOs all over the place. I still try to buy yarn once I have a specific pattern in mind for it. And I try to find good deals. If it's not on sale, or cheap to begin with, I'd just as soon skip it. It's not a hobby that I'd spend just ANY amount of money on. For me, spending unnecessary amounts of money is NOT fun. And hobbies are supposed to be FUN. Thank god for KnitPicks. Hah.

So I guess this is just another knitting-related post, but I'm not putting it in my knitting blog because I think the EXISTENCE of my knitting blog implies that I am rather obsessed with knitting.

Hah - it's kind of funny to be blogging about the status of my other blog, but that's what I want to do. Last night I started uploading a few knitting pictures into my Flickr album (which will be for dedicated knitting images, and I will keep other random stuff in my Photobucket). I added some links from my knitting blog, and I even threw a clickable thumbnail into one of the entries for good measure.

Now the only thing I need to do is keep knitting, blogging, and taking pictures!

I found my missing needles & cable! Will write details in my knitblog. Yeah!!!

OK, this is about knitting, and yes, it IS in my knitblog, but I am just pissed enough to want to write about it here, too. Ranting about missing knitting stuff behind THIS CUT. )

Knitblog

I've started actually making entries in my personal knitting blog. It's nothing fancy - I'm not really doing it for an audience (but I don't mind if people want to read it!), but because I'd like to keep my knitting notes in one place rather than having to sort through entries on my LJ (yes, even with tags)... Also, Blogger allows me a lot more freedom with the general layout & stuff, so I was able to add a nice little script that lets me keep progress bars on each WIP I have going at any given time. (And by the way, I'm falling in love with CSS.)

I'm thinking about pulling all "relevant" entries from this blog and re-posting them to that blog, but I don't know if it's really worth it for me right now. What's really ironic is that my FIRST blog ever was over on blogger, and then I started this LJ and ended up putting all my Blogger entries on here (backdated) so I would have EVERYTHING in one place. Now I'm pulling content off here to put BACK on Blogger so I can have specific topics in DIFFERENT places. Hehehe...

Ahem. Sorry, I turn into a 12 year old AOLer when I get happy.

Anyway.

I did something fun to the CSS on my knitting blog! I made it so that the sections don't have set widths anymore, so they fit correctly in ANY size browser window on ANY monitor. YAY!!! I know, I know, big deal. Well, it is to me. I didn't like the way the original template just SET the widths. First off, they were too narrow, so I widened them. But then, I realized that not everyone has a super widescreen monitor like mine, so then they'd have to scroll back and forth to see the full page all at once. Yuck. So knowing the VERY VERY little that I do about CSS, I made them a PERCENTAGE wide instead of a number of pixels wide. Damn, why didn't they do that in the first place. I think the default LJ templates do that. You'd think Blogger would have thought of that. Meh. Oh well, it can be fixed, and I've done it.

I know this is pretty small stuff, rather trivial and everything, but bear in mind I know VERY little about any of this stuff, and have to learn every tiny thing that I need to know completely from scratch. Maybe I should get some books or something...

I've spent a little too much time today trying to create code for knitting progress bars on my fledgling knitting blog. At first I was perfectly OK with some little CSS ones that were easy enough to tweak and update as needed - they only had one problem. I couldn't get the percentage done (text) to show up in the middle of the progress bar, regardless of how much progress was done. I got the numbers to show up inside the colored portion that shows how much I've done on any particular project, but if it was only 5%, then the text got crowded out and looked messy. Otherwise I could get the percentage in the progress bar just fine, but then the fill color got pushed down BELOW the progress bar! Worthless. So for a while, I figured I'd just have to put the percentage complete above the bar, next to the name of the project.

BUT!!!

I was just not satisfied with this solution - it really wasn't the look I wanted. I did some searching and found a nifty little javascript that does exactly the same thing, plus it's just a little simpler to update and it WORKS the way I WANT it to! Yay!

Now I need to start creating "actual content" for that blog. (I also started a new Flickr account to be knitting-dedicated. That way I can link to pictures there with comments on the images.)

The stupid it burns.

There is SOOO much I want to say to this little lady Tonya Jameson, but considering the article is like 2 years old (and really badly written), and the fact that this is a re-post of the original article from the Charlotte Observer, there's not a huge reason to comment at the webpage. But that doesn't mean I can't say something here! Read more... )

I have this knitting binder that I just put together in the last week or so. It's nice, because now I can keep track of all my WIPs and patterns and notes and stuff. I even made that nice little template that I use to keep track of my WIP notes and details. It's all come in VERY handy already.

So anyway, I have 5 extra-wide tabbed dividers that I want to use to keep the binder more organized as its contents grow. I don't know what to label the tabs!!! I mean, I have some rough ideas, I know I want one section for WIPs, and one for FO notes, and definitely one for Patterns, but what do I do with the other two? Miscellaneous info? Something else? Should I just leave them blank and figure it out later? (Ugh, I really don't like doing stuff like that. I'm so anal. ;)

Also, I have listed 16 categories that I generally sort patterns into. This is PERFECT - it means that I can buy 2 packs of the 8-tab dividers and then sub-divide the Patterns section! However, since the binder is just getting started, I might just hold off on this for now and keep things generally alphabetized until it gets out of hand. These are the categories I'm thinking of using )
I really love this stuff. I am CRAZY about those clear plastic sheet protectors - I can use them for patterns printed off the computer, photocopies from books, and patterns torn out of my magazines! Plus, once I'm done with a project, I can stick the notes into one of them so it doesn't get ripped or lost.

I'm so excited! I started the Skull Illusion Scarf for [livejournal.com profile] imogen_blue last night and got about 34 rows into it - estimating, since it's not with me right now, but I'd say it's maybe 4-5" long right now. It's soft pink and white, just like she asked, and it's looking a LOT better than the last 2 or 3 times I tried doing this pattern! I can already make out the crossbones when I hold it at an angle!

My plan - Finish this scarf and send it ASAP - preferably before winter starts in Oz. I think that's more than reasonable. ;)

ETA: Oh, and I also got my Kacha-Kacha row counter last night! Woo-hoo!
amberica: (Default)
I print these out and 3-hole punch them to keep in my "knitting binder", where I also keep lots of patterns I like in those nice clear plastic sheet protectors. It's come in really handy for keeping track of notes I have for each WIP I've got going on.

Click here to open the MS Word file. Please feel free to save, alter, share it, whatever! ^_^
