LJ Nudge

I noticed a new icon on profile pages within the last couple days - "Nudge a friend". I finally got curious and clicked it, and it's AWESOME! It lets you ask LiveJournal to email any of your mutual friend who have not updated their LJs in a week or more, and remind them to post something!

I have so many friends that don't update very often. Sadly, they are people that I don't hear from much anyway, so I keep hoping they will journal a little bit about their lives so I can keep up with how they are doing. I nudged a couple people today. I can't wait to see if something happens!

1. Copy and paste your friendslist behind a cut.
2. If you've friended multiple journals by the same person, delete all but the "main" one.
3. Bold the name of everyone you know or have met in "real life."
4. Italicize the name of everyone you've spoken to on the phone.
5. Underline the name of everyone you've chatted with online.
6. [Bracket] people you've known, online or off, for more than five years.
7. Turn family members red
8. {bracket} people you've corresponded with via email
9. *star* people with whom you've had offline correspondence

Take your first post from each month and post the first sentence or so.
So I did. )

I don't know why I didn't see this before. LJBook lets you turn your entire LJ (including comments and pictures!!) into a very nice pdf file. I don't think I would ever need to do this, but it's nice to know the option is there. I tried it. I've been doing this LJ thing since May 7, 2004, and my LJBook was almost 350 pages long. I'm sure it will get much longer.

One of the things I liked best about this was the fact that you could browse in Adobe by year and month, and the file itself also had a Table of Contents with clickable links for every single entry title, so you could just jump to the page where the entry was.

If I ever move my blog from here, I might have to use this service. Good thing to know.

I've changed and added some of my LJ interests, so I wanted to see if this got me any different results. It did! )

I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that LJ is going to rollout TrackBack support by the end of December. Maybe just for paid members at first, but when the November News Wrap Up ends with "Stay tuned to [livejournal.com profile] news. We've got more exciting announcements coming for you in December!" ...well... I can't help but hope a little!!

I've decided to make my new default posting pic an image of a white lotus flower. I am too moody to want to ALWAYS see a big ol' grinning picture of myself. Sometimes I feel less "grinny" than that picture looks, and Rockstar Hamster is kind of goofy and silly too. I also had that image of The Knitter for a while, but all the people in my knitting groups know me by my Rockstar Hamster pic, and they love it, so I can't take that away from them!

I think the flower is more appropriate as a default pic.

Can I just say that I REALLY REALLY REALLY love the new LJ Portal aka "My LJ"? Cuz I do. Those lucky paid members got to use it first, but in the last few days as I've started using it I've really grown fond of it. And now it's finally on the menu, too!

All of you, LOVE YOUR PORTAL! It's super useful! And rearrangeable, too. Sweet!

It's The Me! Yep.

I like the Rockstar Hamster, but I wanted a change of pace for a little while.

I was just looking at one of the communities I am a member of here on LJ, and I saw someone who had the SAME hamster-rockstar picture that *I* like to use!!! So for right now, I am switching to a moon. When I'm not being so lazy all the time, I'm going to make my own animated .gif that is totally unique... but for now, I'm lazy. And I don't usually like just using a picture of my face. Boring!

Check me out, I'm a dork. I put animated Lava Lamp .gif's on my LJ Profile, and I'm HAPPY about it!

This is a post from [livejournal.com profile] bellapoison's journal. It's pretty funny.

I just noticed that 7 of my last 10 entries were posted as "Friends only" or otherwise protected by more specific group lists. So that means, if you are one of my friends and aren't seeing a lot of posting from me here, remember to log in BEFORE you look at your Friends Page or my journal.

Better yet, after you log in, click the box that allows you to STAY logged in (on this machine) if you feel safe doing that...

Have a great weekend! I'll be in Fargo... not necessarily the top place to be on my list, but I guess I'll make the best of it! See you there, [livejournal.com profile] frino!

----------------------------------

I'm feeling kind of jumpy. I don't want to sit here anymore. Ack. And then I have at least a 3.5 hour drive AFTER work. ACK!

[livejournal.com profile] frino inspired me to play around with the look of my LJ some more, so here is the new incarnation! Please pay close attention to the fact that I have now incorporated Esperanto as a supported language, and as the language of my Comment links and stuff. ^_^ As some of you may remember, I learned Esperanto a few years ago over the summer. It is VERY easy, and pretty fun, and makes learning other languages easier, too! For more information about Esperanto, here are a few helpful links:

I just realized (with quite a start) that I could just take the html from my Audioblog site and paste it into here, so I went back and did that so you don't have to navigate away from LJ to hear my audio entries.

Let me just be the first one here to say DUH!

Foreign LJs

It's funny. It seems like whenever I want to read random people's LiveJournals, I get a disproportionately large number of Russian ones. Weird.

Just ate some takeout from Dino's, this totally GRAVY Greek fast-food place down on Snelling and Larpenteur. OMG, I want to die, it was so good. I have to go there way more often. Seriously. Die. Good. Mmmmmm.

Wanna go to sleep now. Soooo satisfied.........

OK, I've decided to be really trendy and cool and start audioblogging... maybe. Once I decide I am motivated enough to start doing this, you will be able to find my audio posts HERE, at least until I figure out how to put them directly on my LJ. Not that I've even looked into it yet. But hey. I'm all about starting things passionately and then letting my interest rapidly fade as something else catches my attention.

Gravy.

Went to the Apple Store at Rosedale Mall this weekend. Jon wanted to drool on the 30 inch monitor again. When we went in, we saw a guy that looked a LOT like the Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons actually CHECKING OUT LIVEJOURNAL on one of the demo computers in the store! It was hard not to laugh. And if that wasn't nerdy enough, when we left the store, that same guy was still on that computer watching the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie trailer.... and as TOTALLY AWESOME as that trailer is, it is really very dorky to be watching it in the Apple Store in the mall after updating your LiveJournal at said store as well. Or maybe he was just reading his friends' journals. I don't know. Either way is goofy.

I wasn't sure if Jon had seen this. As soon as we walked out into the mall, we looked at each other and when I said, "Did you see that GUY?" he started laughing with me, because he had indeed seen it and had also found it very hard not to laugh at the time. Tee hee!

I am a total LJ geek too, and one of the bigger Guide obsessives that I know (especially for a girl), but come ON! There is a TIME and a PLACE for those activities.

OK, when I was younger, I used to journal sporadically. It always felt like a chore. I'd open my little book and write what happened during the day. Bleh. Well, sometimes it's interesting to go back and read it, but kind of pointless. For the last few years, I write when I feel like it, and it usually ends up on a legal pad or in some random notebook that I find laying around the house, or on here. But instead of trying to force myself to just recount the events of the day, I just muse on what I am thinking about or feeling. It's a lot easier to do (sometimes) and definitely feels better. Cathartic. Although I do sometimes just write down the events of the day, it's only when I feel they have been emotionally charged for me in one way or another, and I need to get them out of my head and on paper (online?) so that I don't have to carry all that emotion with me into the night. So.

Sunday night I was SO upset about something, and I couldn't find my little notebook that I try to keep with me so I can jot down things that come to me during the day. That was SO upsetting. So I had to grab a legal pad that I found and just write a couple furious pages out so I could sleep. (The computer was off by then, otherwise I would have written it here.) Sure enough, I felt WAY better after getting it all out on paper, and the next morning I had no worries or frustrations on my mind. I feel sorry for people that don't know the therapeutic benefits of journaling.

Time to go make a tuna melt. With Frank's. Mmm. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
