Oh wow. I'm so pleased right now. I just got the song Sister Golden Hair in my head (if you don't know this song, you are missing out big time. It's by the 70s band America. They are awesome. Go listen to it), and I decided to see if I could find the chords for it and IT IS SO EASY AND IT SOUNDS SO GOOD. I feel so good right now. I am so eternally grateful that Jon gave me this guitar for my birthday.

And now I go to transpose the same chords over to ukulele. ^_^

Desiderata

I just had a chat with a friend who is going through some tough times. Or rather, he is just starting to emerge from them, but that doesn't make it any less tough. Things got so bad that he now has only one direction to go - UP. And that in itself is somewhat encouraging for him.

For some reason, while we were chatting, I remembered how my mom likes to say "The universe is unfolding as it should." It's a line from a poem called Desiderata, published in 1927 and then recorded with music in 1971, kind of like the Baz Luhrman recording of "Everybody's Free (to Wear Sunscreen)". (You should click that link. It will explain where that text actually came from. I kind of get annoyed when people just think Baz wrote it. It wasn't even a speech to a graduating class. It was a newspaper column, people. It was written to graduates, but it was not a speech.) /pedantic rant

OK, so here's the text of Desiderata. I like it. Enjoy.

Yippee!! I'm super happy and excited for a few reasons!

Reason #1 is rather private, so I choose not to share it, but please trust me that it is a very good thing. (ETA: It has nothing to do with pregnancy or anything else like that - it's just simply personal.)

Reason #2 is that I got to give Jon a giftmas present that I was really excited to give him!

Reason #3 is that Jon gave me a giftmas present too! And IT'S A UKULELE!!!!! wheeeee!! I've spent quite some time this evening tuning it (and re-tuning and re-tuning! it takes a while before the new strings stop stretching) and playing a little between tunings. I was singing Clementine and he started running the video camera and I got shy and stopped. I don't like being filmed.... But HOORAY! Now I have a piano and an electric keyboard and a guitar and a UKULELE! Yippeeeeeeee!!!!

Next order of business, re-learn to play Tiptoe Thruough the Tulips so I can sing it like Tiny Tim and annoy the living snot out of anyone who dares venture near me and my awesome new ukulele.

I think I should give it a name... it's too cute not to have one...

From a chat with my friend Darren this evening (content unaltered):
Darren says: hey can you think of any wacky songs I can play if I do the terrorizing the heartland tour?
Amber says: what?
Darren says: Im thinking about crashing a bunch of small town summer festivals "turky days" or potato days and playing some really raucus music and have some anonymous person in the audience gettint crows reaction like "man their terrible"and so on. the recording is the finnished "product" not the show I just want to make a bunch of farmers curse the show and tape their reaction.
Amber says: muh
Darren says: you know like interveiw the bystanders and ask wht they think . I want it to be smelly on purpose

Gawd, you know what song I really dig sometimes? This one. The one I'm listening to. The Sea. Sometimes I crave it like chocolate. Or cigarettes. No, more like chocolate. The nicotine craving is much more unpleasant, and the craving for this song is kind of a nice one. Can't explain it.

I sure am glad I quit smoking. What has it been now? Six years? Seven? Quite some time since I had my last cigarette. The last pack I bought was actually Djarum cloves. Shane picked them up for me and I paid him back when he got to my house. But normally I smoked Capri Ultra Light 120s (Menthol). When I first started smoking in earnest I was smoking Mistys. After I switched brands, Misty just tasted nasty and stale. Too rough. Capris were much smoother. I remember that I was thinking about switching "up" again to Virginia Slims, but then I decided to quit instead. Good choice. Ha. What a fuckin waste of money that habit was. And it made my fingers stink! The cottonmouth was yucky too. And the cravings. How stupid. I can't believe I even let myself do it in the first place, but I was at the lowest point in my life, and didn't have any reason to NOT abuse my health. I was living with that little pus wad AJ. Sometimes I'm grateful that my life sank so low, because it makes me really appreciate what I've made of myself since then. But I know if I had the choice to go back, I would not have done it the way I did. Then again, I know better now than I did then.

Oh well.

OK, here is the warning: Those of you who are fans of the so-called Country "Music" should not read this entry, as it may be offensive to you.

That being said.... )

OK, I have found FOUR remixes of Mambo Gallego, and those are in addition to the original D-Code remix. I only got 30 seconds of each one of those, and none are as good as the original remix if you ask me.

Just wanted to make a note of that.

OK, did some more searching (yeah, I'm still WAY into this song) and ALLEGEDLY it is just "a remix of Mambo Gallego" by "someone at Cartoon Network" who goes by the name "D-Code" or "D:Code"... Still not positive on any of this, but I am still looking hard because I totally believe in giving credit where credit is due...

**EDIT**
OMG, there are TWO remixes of Mambo Gallego!! the "Holowach Dipstick Mix" and the "Holowach Shitkicker Mix"!! I don't know which one I have found, but I haven't yet found a place where I can HEAR these two.... More to come.... I hope!

Apparently I'm not the only one who has been obesessed for several years with finding this song, because I just found someone's website where they stated that they could DIE today and still be at TOTAL PEACE now that he found it. What is the song? It's that super cool and jazzy mambo-sounding tune they used to play during Adult Swim bumpers. I haven't watched it in a long time, and am not sure if they still use this music. But I do hear it from time to time in other places... I just heard it again on CSI: Miami this evening and just about jumped out of my chair. It was like the hunt was back on! I tried to find music credits for this episode online, but no luck there, so I started scanning other message boards all over the place, and I actually got what I was looking for! It is a remix of a Tito Puente song called "Mambo Gallego." The remix is called D-Code. I don't know who mixed it - it's turning out to be a lot harder than I would think it would be to find that info out. Nevertheless, some college kid (the one who was equally obsessed as me) posted a downloadable link, and now I have the song!!!! I am super pleased.

If anyone is curious, here is the page of the site of the guy that saved my sanity: http://www.wfu.edu/users/shelj24/peace.html

Home Sick

I did not go to work today. I had some major intestinal problems this weekend. I am exhausted. And now I feel even worse because I hate not going to work. I just worry constantly that the place is going to fall apart without me, or at least MY stuff will fall apart because I am not there to take care of it. Plus, I worry that the people who will have to be covering for me while I am not there will be resentful.

So ultimately, all the stress of worrying about work while I'm not there actually makes me SICKER. I hate how sensitive my body can be to emotional stress. It's bad enough dealing with the mental and emotional burdens of stress, but the physical is just pushing it over the edge of tolerability. I am going nuts.

Gah. I am just about OBSESSED with iTunes (it really is super slick), but there are 2 problems with it. 1) It has CRAP for visualizations compared to the MilkDrop plugin for WinAmp, but at least that's not TOO important; and 2) My Semagic client for LJ can't recognize songs I am listening to in iTunes. It can recognize what's playing in WinAmp and WMP and I would guess a few others like RealPlayer and stuff, but no iTunes support! That is not actually important either, but just kind of irritating. So if I want my current music to be displayed on an entry, I have to remember to manually type it in! It's not that I'm lazy, cuz it's easy enough to do, but I always forget about that or am too eager to just WRITE and POST.

I like Semagic. I like that if I am writing and the system needs a reboot or the program crashes or freezes up as it can sometimes do when I try to preview an entry, everything I had written (even if I didn't actively save it) is still completely intact there! I don't know how it does it, but I like like like it a lot, especially after talking to Jon and other people who do LJ straight thru their web browser which can be a real bitch if you accidentally click a link someone sends you or something, or if your browser crashes or whatever.

Speaking of browsers, I am still totally proselytizing the virtues of Mozilla Firefox all over the place. The only issue that REALLY gets on my nerves (and Jon's too - we spent a good amount of time bitching about it) is that the URL bar just keeps addresses in the order in which you entered them! So that means that the things you visited first in Firefox are at the bottom of the list, and the recent stuff that you just entered because someone mentioned it or whatever, that's always at the TOP of the list! And no matter how often you visit your favorite site, it is always going to be at the BOTTOM of the list. Really dumb. That's the only thing that IE has over Firefox as far as I'm concerned. Tabbed browsing is where it's at, and the AdBlock feature is beauty. Plus it has lots and lots of really neat and useful plugins and extensions, and it's SKINNABLE (not everyone cares about that, but it's still neat-o IMHO.)

OK, I gotta go. The bathroom calls yet again.

**EDIT**
w00t - I found the preference where I can allow Semagic to recognize iTunes. Never mind the above rant! Now all I don't like is that trash they think can pass as Visualizations.
