New Couch, and Symbiant Holiday Party
Jan. 14th, 2006 11:04 pmThe new couch was delivered this morning! They told me that we'd be the first stop today, sometime between 8:30 and 10:30, so I made sure to be up and dressed and ready for the delivery. At about 9:00, I was milling around drinking my tea and wondering when they'd get here, and went to ask Jon if he was getting up anytime soon (he was out playing poker with his pals until 3:30 am, so he slept late today), and he mumbled something into his pillow so I decided to leave him alone. The MOMENT I walked back into the living room I saw the Slumberland truck zoom right by my house! Dammit. I knew that would happen. Our house number is pretty hard to see - it's on the very bottom of the screen door, not a very prominent spot. But a couple minutes later the truck came back down the street and backed into the driveway and they delivered my couch! (The loveseat and table will be coming in another week or two.)
Jon got up after I signed the delivery papers and the guys had gone back out to the truck to get the couch. After they left, we pushed it into place and then Jon pointed out that it "sags" a lot in the middle - I had to stand up to see what he meant, but it definitely looked like the frame was busted or something! We flipped it on its front and discovered that it was missing legs! There are 4 legs along the back edge, but the front only has one leg on each corner, so it definitely sags a bit towards the middle when someone sits on it. Whoops! I called the store at 10am when they opened and was advised to call the Customer Service Line. When I called that, I got a message saying that they took calls M-F, 8:30-4:30 (or something like that.) Ugh. So this means that until I can call Monday and get some feet for the couch, I'm going to have to stick a couple 2-inch blocks of wood under the front edge of the frame if I want to use it and not REALLY cause any damage! Ack!!!
OK.
Tonight was Jon's Company's "Holiday Party." It was pretty nice, I put on a little black cocktail dress and Jon had on some sweater or something, and it was at this nice restaurant with good food. I had a 6-oz tenderloin and 6-oz salmon fillet with some kind of lemon dill sauce, and some garlic mashed potatoes and green beans and pea pods. We split a slice of turtle cheesecake. Whatever.
They gave us each a little box of chocolates and a $10 gift card to Caribou Coffee - Sweet! Jon HATES coffee, so more for me. Yay!
Then the piece de resistance - every employee (and there are really not that many of them - less than 30) got a black 1GB iPod Nano! Wow. The thing is, Jon HAS an iPod - a 20GB one which is not even close to full. (Yeah, I know, he has like 150 gigs of music but he doesn't want them all portable, see?) I think he is considering taking it in and paying the $50 extra to upgrade to a 4GB. And then I wish he would give it to me. But he probably wont. When it comes right down to it, I really have no need for one. He has his big iPod permanently attached to his car stereo most of the time, so that makes sense for him, but I'm too much of a news junkie to give up my radio in favor of my own dang music which would make me miss all the headlines and weather reports and NEWS NEWS NEWS! (yeah, junkie)
