OK, when I was in Devils Lake I was trying to find a couple of pictures that would show how blocking lace drastically changes/improves its appearance after you are done knitting it. Well yippee doo-dah day, I found 'em! Someone posted some great before-and-after blocking photos to the [livejournal.com profile] knitting community, in this entry (just scroll down a teeny bit to see them both.)

So beautiful!!

And that's the kind of transformation my Peacock Feathers Shawl will go through after I knit it up. Wheee, I'm so excited!!!

5/4-06: EDITED TO ADD - OK, here are some even better pictures. Gorgeous!

Today at work I started working on Liesel again, and GUESS WHAT! It worked like a charm! Once again, I was in my nice quiet office, I had the radio on at a low, soothing level, and I zipped right through 11 rows without a single mistake or problem. I didn't have time to do more, but I can guaran-DAMN-tee that the TV was the problem last time I tried to knit this pattern at home.

I will work a couple more repeats on it and then maybe post some WIP pix. It will look better after blocking, but it's already pretty neat as-is.

Yesterday morning I found this pattern. (PDF file, opens in new window.) At lunch, I grabbed some of my cheap yarn from Target and a couple needles to bring back to work. Later in the afternoon, when things were pretty quiet around the office, I gave it a try.

It was AWESOME! Super easy! If I'd known lace was this simple, I would have started it long ago. You could definitely see the little leaves in the pattern.

So.

I was really happy about this. Swung by JoAnn to get some yarn for "the real deal" and went home to start making the scarf for my mom. Here's what happened )
