This is the house Jon likes: Clicky

We drove by this on Sunday. It's a beautiful area, very "nature-y" and stuff. I think Jon is most gung-ho about the 4-stall garage - hah. I think he is going to email this to Angela so we can look inside it next weekend.

A few things concern me about it, though. It is older - most of the other houses we've seen have been built in the 90s, with a few in the 70s or 80s, too. It is in Forest Lake, MN, and we used the odometer on the way home to find out that it is about 25 miles from my work. Bleh. Yes, I know plenty of people commute into the cities from much further away than that, and I won't be at this job forever anyway, but it would still take a lot of getting used to. According to Google, the CLOSEST Target store is 10 miles away from Forest Lake. AAAUGH!! What would I do without a Target every 2 blocks?!? I don't know if I could survive!

The good news is that Jon is very handy around the house, of course, and would be able to do a lot of maintenence and fixing-up if necessary, which would save a lot of money if repairs had to be done... I really liked the gigantic 2-level deck overlooking the pond and golf course... I don't really like all those trees that were around it, but at least they were not totally crowding the house and "yard" - I have to put it in quotes because 2.8 acres is a little more than a "yard" - heheh.

Well, I'll be eager to see what it's like inside. Will probably mention something about it next week.

Interesting house. The backyard and back deck look creepily, uncannily(if that's a real word) like my parents' backyard and deck. Freaky.

Maybe if it's creepy and freaky enough, Jon won't make me consider living way out that far!

DAY-UMM! It's a beatiful house. The price tag about had my spitting my corn flakes all over the laptop. Is that the going price for real estate in the twin cities?!

(And who the hell needs a 4-car garage?!)

Heehee - this house is "cheap" because it's 25 miles out of the metro area! Like I was moaning about several months ago, you pretty much have to spend a quarter million to get a semi-decent house around here. The further out from the metro you go, the more house you get for your money - or the less you pay for a slightly crappier house! ;)

I had mentioned in the last paragraph of this entry that we could consider buying a house in the $400K range, and we have what would be considered a fairly moderate income for this area... But we really would rather go for purchasing something more modest and then having more options for the future, like one of us staying home full-time if and when we ever decide to start a family. If we aren't pouring everything into a mortgage, we would be able to still afford to do that, and put plenty into savings in the meantime.

Oh yeah, and apparently WE need a 4-car garage...??? We have 3 cars as it is, and Jon still needs a sizeable "work area" for his insane projects. He's already taken over 3/4ths of the basement in this place! Ack!

Yep! The 2004 VW R32 (aka "R for 2"), the 1997 VW Golf (aka "Zebra Car") and my 1997 Saturn SL2 (aka "that damn piece of crap")... Don't forget, just a short time ago, Jon owned 4 cars (or was it 5?) by himself, so I think we're doing pretty well on the new Car Diet. ;)

Heehee - Bear in mind, it was built in the 60s and I have no idea what kind of shape the inside is in! I'll post more after we walk thru it...

Just out of curiosity, how come you and Kathryn only commented on this place, but not the two I am totally in love with from this entry? Is it really that much better and I'm just biased by the age and distance? :\ hmmmmm....
