Grr. I waited excitedly all night for little Trick-or-Treaters to come to my door and only got 4 (And then one last call later on).
  1. A little tiny cow. So cute! He said "Ticker Teet" and "Tank you!" when I gave him candy.
  2. Three teenage girls dressed as packs of gum (I think?) They were probably all about 17 years old, but they seemed so happy and enthusiastic I had to love it!
  3. A little kid dressed as a leopard or cheetah. Jon got the door on that one, I only just caught a glimpse of the kid. Really sweet though!
  4. A little girl dressed as a fluffy pink princess. This one bugged me.
    • She did not say "Trick or Treat" and her mom didn't even prompt her to do so! Come on! That's what you DO! I was tempted not to give her any candy.
    • When I gave her candy, she did not say "Thank you." This was ridiculous. Her mom was right there. Now that is something you really SHOULD prompt your kids to say.
    • She did not even say "Goodbye" when she turned around to leave. It was weird.
I'm probably wrong about this, but here's my take on the situation with that princess. I bet she is spoiled rotten at home. I bet she is treated like a little princess and given everything she ever wants, and expects life to be that way all the time. I bet her parents are not nearly as interested in teaching her good manners and social skills as they are in bending to her every whim. I bet she willl grow up with a sense of entitlement, and wonder why the world doesn't always give her what she wants even when she doesn't do anything to earn it. I've known people like this. It's pathetic, and I think the parents are mostly to blame. Not 100%, but heck, they need to teach their kids to value things and people, and they need to not spoil the kids, because they will stay that way forever and make life hell for those around them.

Or maybe she was just shy. I dunno.

I turned off the porch light at about 9:20 or 9:30, somewhat disappointed. I had hoped to see more kids, but I guess there aren't many in our neighborhood at that age. I was shutting everything down and getting ready to head to bed when someone rang the doorbell twice really excitedly. I wondered if it was one of our friends playing a joke or something. May I remind the reader, the porch light was off! Opened the front door, and oh look. Yay. It's a boy and two girls, about 15 or 16 years old, screaming TRICK OR TREAT!!! Grr. I said, "Oh! ... Our porch light is OFF. We were just going to bed." I flashed the light a couple times to demonstrate what it would have looked like if they had come when I was open for business, so to speak. Nevertheless, I had a ton of candy left, and rather than risk getting soaped or egged or something, I gave them each some candy. Then I shut the door and turned the porch light OFF again. I also turned off the lights in the living room, since I think they saw that as a sign that someone must be awake and therefore happy to answer the door and hand out candy.

Huh. I was always under the impression that the porch light was supposed to be the signal that you were there and had candy or not. Oh well. Maybe I just had better manners as a kid when out trick-or-treating. Meh.

So now I still have about 2 bags worth of candy. I think I will bring it in to work and scatter it around by the coffee stations or something. People here love treats, especially free food and branded stuff. They will do ANYTHING for a Symantec sweatshirt or coffee mug. Seriously. It's kind of funny. But there must be something in the air here, because I'm the same way. I was unbelieveably excited to get a SYMC backpack and long-sleeved T-shirt after the EDP Forum last month. But then again, the backpack is a Timberland, and easily the nicest one I've ever owned. It's probably worth at least $50, maybe more. The best backpacks I've ever had were under $10. This one has pockets and compartments up the wazoo, and those cool rotating arm strap hinge-things, and a padded space for a laptop, and a little internal pocket for a CD-player with a tiny opening for headphones. It is so cool. And it says Symantec on it. Rad.

I put one of my Symantec retractable rollerball pens (so cool) in it, and the super-nice Symantec spiral-bound notebook with the awesome see-thru thick plastic cover (I wish I had the one with the cool aluminum cover that says Symantec, but I gave that one to Jon.) Then I filled it up with yarn and I put knitting needles in all the rest of the pen/pencil pockets.

I'm the SAME way with *good* give-aways! LOL!

And yes, we look for the porch light. It irks me when people have a light on and then DON't come to the door. Oh well. Not like we're short on candy or anything! :D
