Well, I feel good about work today. For quite a while I was getting very discouraged with the general soap-opera drama crap that goes on there between some people, but it got SO ridiculous yesterday that I had to simply stop caring AT ALL, and then I suddenly felt a million times better.

So anyway, just this little thing happened that made me feel really nice this afternoon. I got a call from Jamie who asked if Karen had stopped by to see me yet, and I said no, and then Jamie said that Karen needed some help with creating a drop-down menu in Excel, and since Jamie didn't know how to help her, she was going to come ask me since apparently I am now known for my Excel Skills! What a smiley moment that was. Kind of an invisible compliment!

The other thing that was nice is that Tony informed me I am going to have to make all new signs for every office door in our building. Not the smaller building though, those are different kinds of signs that have to be special ordered and I think Tony is just going to take a small crew around there with him to scrape off all the little V's (for Veritas) off of each sign.) So anyway, I have to make about 300 or so new nameplates to go on each door. They are just printed on fancy paper, not hard to do. The only problem is that I was having a lot of trouble for about 25 minutes trying to do the whole project as a merge in MSWord, and Jim was hanging around and annoying me, and then Coy came by and started running a vacuum, and I totally have PMS, so I just couldn't THINK. So finally, after Jim left and things quieted down, I got the merge to work properly, I got the border for each sign (they are just 5.5" squares, not the whole page) lined up properly without screwing the merge data up (I don't know why it has such problems with that sometimes!) and I ran a test list to make sure it worked properly. It did, w00t. Then I started getting upset because like 200 of the names I had on my existing roster were names from the other building, which meant I would have to go through and take each of them out, but THEN I remembered that I keep all the people from the other building in CAPS on my roster, so they could be found and deleted easily! So that was a relief. Tony wants these signs done by April 15th (this is now alleged to be the day we switch over to being part of Symantec) but I bet I can have it done before next week, if nothing else comes up in the meantime. There are 3 interviews tomorrow, and we have 2 new employees starting on Monday, and the lab mapping project just continues to be a big drama-laden MESS, so that shouldn't affect my time at all. Besides, if this new printer I'm getting is as good as it sounds, then I won't have to babysit the signs for paper jams while they print, so really all I have to do is delete all the names from ROS1 and merge to the printer - DONE. I could finish this tomorrow. Heck, that's cool.

Tony is funny. He said he's not sure how we're supposed to answer the phone yet on April 15th, but I really am not worried about that. I'm sure I'll hear something before then. If not, I'm just going to answer with "Veritas-Symantec Software" or something like that.
