a little gripe about garbage
Jun. 12th, 2006 04:03 pmOK, I have this problem with my garbage.
I work every day from about 8am to about 5pm. Most of the people who work in my company do the same. I am only slightly different than most because I have a lock on my office door. Most other offices do not have locks on them unless they are a manager's office.
At night, the cleaning company crew comes through and empties all the wastebaskets in all the offices. But usually not mine. When I first got this position, I would lock my door at the end of the day because I have a lot of sensitive materials in my office, and I'd come back in the morning to find a) my door unlocked, b) my computer NOT sleeping like it should be, or c) both of the above. (Sometimes none of this was the case, too, but it happened more than I was comfortable with.) I started leaving a post-it note on my door each evening - "Please leave this door locked!" by which I simply meant, "If you unlock it to empty the garbage, then be sure to RE-LOCK it when you leave again!" Instead, I started to find that not only was my lock being left engaged, but my garbage was not being emptied most nights either.
So I started leaving my wastebasket out in the hallway when it needed to be emptied. Which is annoying. Then I moved into a new office. Most nights the same thing would happen. Some nights my garbage would be emptied and my office would be re-locked. Some nights my garbage would be emptied and my office would be left UN-locked! Some nights, I took a risk and left the door unlocked, only to find the garbage emptied and the door LOCKED in the morning! Other nights, I'd leave the door unlocked and find it unlocked the next day. But most times, I lock the door and go home, and come back to garbage in my wastebasket and the door still locked as I'd left it.
I'm totally baffled and have no idea what to do. I chatted with my boss about this and he NEVER has this problem. He locks his door every night and gets his garbage emptied every night, and his door is left locked again.
I seriously think the overnight cleaning crew hates me or something.
