Vale is Latin for "Buh-bye"
Feb. 15th, 2005 06:00 pmYes, it's true. Vale means goodbye. But Valentine (as in the day or the cheesy cards) is from the names of 2 early Italian saints, each named Valentinus, which is from Latin valentia which means "strength" or "capacity." But that comes from the verb valere which means "to be strong". Vale is said to someone who is departing, a way of saying "Go in good health/strength." Not that it matters. The holiday was named after the GUY, not the thing his name came from. Hah! Fooled you all!
So yesterday was Valentine's Day. I almost didn't notice it. Went to Fire Rock for dinner w/ Jon. Shrimp Scampi, mmmm. And he had Filet Mignon, if anyone cares. I was very happy that we did not do the whole silly gift thing. I've never liked the gift thing for holidays or birthdays and stuff, and finally I'm with someone who doesn't like it either. :) I can't stand it. Every time I tell my mom I don't want things, she gives me more things anyway. I am tired of people cluttering up my life with things.
LESS THINGS! PLEASE!!!!!
