OK, not really scientific... but if you are reading this, please answer at least with a yes or a no...

DO YOU GET ONION TEARS?

I ask because I thought everyone did, but tonight as I was chopping an onion and screeching, "Onion tears! Onion tears! Aaaiiiieeee!!", Jon wiped my eyes and dabbed my nose with a tissue and said he thought he was immune to onions. So I challenged him to stick his face down by the cutting board and take a big whiff... which he did!! And nothing happened. No tears, not a sniffle, nothing.

That is SO not fair! I'm the one who cooks around here, I should get the powers of immunity. :(

So, do YOU tear up when cutting an onion? Please be honest, this is for pesudoscience

didn't you say once upon a time that Jon's sense of smell is goofed up? I know that can affect the onion thing... I seem to recall that Olaf doesn't have a problem with onions, and he's got WEIRD nose issues.

I used to be immune but that's only because I was hiding behind contact lenses!

Without contacts, I cry like a little baby.

Especially since my laser surgery... thinner cornea, more crying.

Mine don't...when I worked at Target, I was the only one who could cut the onions.

My eyes do tear up when I bite into a strong onion.

Well, onion slices really. Bermuda onions can be pretty strong.

My grandpa used to eat onions like an apple though.

I haven't cut or bitten into an onion in a couple years but when I did I didn't tear up at all. It's a useless immunity for me since I'm not real big on them. On the flipside, I love salsa and after the first mouthful of that, my eyes are watering, my forehead gets sweaty and sometimes I even get the hiccups. I have a fairly deep voice but my hiccups are always chipmunk style, so the whole combination is just the most dignified thing ever.
