Zip-POI-di-doo-dah!
Jul. 13th, 2005 08:18 pmHoly cow, I just surprised myself so much that I found myself standing here with a big toothy grin!! I was just whacking myself in the head and back with my poi, as I am wont to do most days, and suddenly I just got it and I was doing a 3-beat weave!! I have gotten too lazy about always doing a 2-beat weave with my right arm under my left, and I thought it would be a good idea to push myself to switch it up, so once I got left-under-right going smoothly enough, I tried the 3-beat weave again and instead of tying my arms up in cord and whacking myself in the hip, it just started to flow! I was so surprised at how smoothly it just happened that I accidentally whacked myself in the hip! lol
So now once I get that smooth enough, I'm going to try a 5-beat weave. I can also do a butterfly, a mexican wave, a windmill, a reverse wave (2- and 3-beat) and a corkscrew... Not a lot yet, but I'm pleased with the progress. It's going better than I even expected! I feel like I'm getting more accustomed to the way the poi move in relation to the way I move my hands, arms, and wrists. And I feel like I'm getting a little better control of said body parts, which is a HUGE accomplishment for a clumsy girl like me.
Hooray!

frino babe, here are a couple more sites you can look at if you are still curious (and damn my memory if I already gave you these): Do More Poi and Home of Poi (click on "Lessons" on each one and you can kinda see a breakdown of what's going on)
