Birthday's a-comin!
Oct. 31st, 2005 09:10 pmHalloween Stuff:
Today is Halloween! One of my favorite "holidays" and always a fun one... well, when you put a little effort into it. (Sadly, I didn't this year. No costume, no decoration, and we only got like 4 trick-or-treaters.) What am I going to do with 2 bags worth of candy??? It'll last until next spring! Oh well.
Birthday Stuff:
My birthday is this coming SUNDAY! Hooray! I think I will be 28! (I always forget which year I'm on, but I'm pretty sure that's it.)
I don't really care if I get any presents or not, but if anyone who reads this feels the urge to buy me stuff, remember that I am constantly updating / adding to My Amazon Wishlist. Check it out!
Also, as I mentioned in an entry a while back, I'd really like these fluffy pink poi... ahem. If you need my shipping address, just let me know.
Knitting Stuff:
Last night I watched the movie Amelie again, and I did my first attempt at intarsia knitting. It's a kind of colorworking. I just did a little pink swatch, about 4" x 4", with a garter stitch border and then I did a yellow skull and crossbones in the middle of the square. It worked!! I was sooo excited. My first attempt got a little mixed up, but my second one was the one that worked, and it was beautiful! The only problem is that I was using two really pale yarns (as I said, light pastel pink and light pastel yellow - hey, they were $1 each at Target! Cheap acrylic crap is niiice for trying new things) - so it's kind of hard to see the actual colorwork, but it's there!
I'm actually not sure if what I did is technically intarsia or stranding or what. The graph itself was about 15 sts by 16 sts, and there was a lot of stranding across the back of the skull area. I think I could have used two lengths of yellow and made it a lot neater on the back, but i dunno. The strands across the back of the piece bug me a little. I will have to find out more about alternate methods. I did read about a way to weave your secondary color along with the primary color stitches, which makes for a thicker fabric, and is good for carrying colors across longer areas than 4 or 5 stitches, which is kind of the limit for stranding, like in Fair Isle...
I don't know. I'm rambling. Just thinking in text. That's all. Hell, it's a journal. That's what I like journals for.

Date: 2005-11-02 06:40 am (UTC)Also, I just started a lace scarf for my mother, and it looks like pretty elm leaves! I'll definitely post pix of that, too!
I want to see pix of what you knit - even if it's just garter-stitch scarves, I love pix of anything people I know are knitting! ^_^

Date: 2005-11-02 04:46 pm (UTC)I got mine from my grandma, who prefers crochet over knitting. It looks like this:
I haven't used it for anything except cabling, because I don't have a proper cabling needle... so I can't really explain a situation in which you'd use one!
