Thanksgiving
Nov. 28th, 2005 10:42 amI don't think I could have asked for a more pleasant holiday. Both my brothers were able to be there, along with me and my parents of course, and my mom's sister's ENTIRE family was there (all 4 of them) which hasn't happened in several years due to one cousin being in the Marines and one being in the Air Force. And Grandma and Grandpa, of course. It was at their place!
So for this family, it was a relatively "small" group of just 11 people, but it was nice that the families that were there were "complete". We all really had a great time being together - we are a somewhat rambunctious group, but always fun.
My youngest brother (age 23) took an eyeliner pencil that I found in my purse and tried to draw a mustache on our middle brother (he's 25) as he napped after the big Turkey dinner. He didn't appreciate that and threw his hat. Then the youngest allowed me to draw a skinny French mustache on him, and then he drew a mustache on the older of our two cousins (also 23 - the Marine), and a mustache and BIG eyebrows on our younger cousin (he's 21 - Air Force). Many pictures, much laughter. I think I took 77 pictures, and my dad took about 20, so I will be putting them all in an online gallery for the cousins to see. They all wanted copies, so this way they can download their favorites.
The food was good, we were all in good spirits, and there was no fighting except I guess when the more low-key of my brothers smacked the younger one upside the head for trying to pull the mustache stunt on him while he napped - but even that was good-natured. Nothing like the kind of family strife you hear about that makes people hate holidays and reunions and other family gatherings. Actually, we all really like each other quite a bit and have a lot of fun when we are together. I feel really grateful to have the relatives I do.
Everyone wanted to meet Jon, but he was with his own relatives for Thanksgiving. I wonder when we'll have to start deciding who to be with on holidays... I don't mind being apart for them right now, but I guess after the wedding we'll have to make some choices about that.
