I just had a chat with a friend who is going through some tough times. Or rather, he is just starting to emerge from them, but that doesn't make it any less tough. Things got so bad that he now has only one direction to go - UP. And that in itself is somewhat encouraging for him.
For some reason, while we were chatting, I remembered how my mom likes to say "The universe is unfolding as it should." It's a line from a poem called Desiderata,
published in 1927 and then recorded with music in 1971, kind of like the Baz Luhrman recording of
"Everybody's Free (to Wear Sunscreen)". (You should click that link. It will explain where that text actually came from. I kind of get annoyed when people just think Baz wrote it. It wasn't even a speech to a graduating class. It was a newspaper column, people. It was written to graduates, but it was not a speech.) /pedantic rant
