What follows is just a personal status report of where I'm at with my knitting right now, and some near-term goals I have. Likely to bore, but it's for ME, not YOU ;) )

Hah! Whee! I had my Denise needles shipped to my work so I'd be sure to get them. I got the call from the mailroom this morning - "Delivery for you from Copper Moose...?" Omigod that's the seller from ebay holycrap that was fast omigod why doesn't the elevator go faster so I can get them already?!!! I am super pleased and amazed at the great shipping time on this sale, BTW, and it was FREE priority mail shipping! I ordered on Tuesday and got them on Friday. Wow.

I was just too excited to wait, so I had to open them up and take a look right here in my office. They are gorgeous. Smooth, light, the cords are really nice and flexible, and it all comes in a little fold up "book" shaped thing that is much smaller and compact than I had anticipated. Super cool!!

Went home for lunch and I just had to cast on and knit a few stitches to see how they felt. A-maz-ing. So smooth, so light, so quick! Seriously, I can't figure out why, but they are way better than the circs I already have. I think the cords are slipperier. I've decided to use some of the Wool-Ease I have sitting around to make Coronet, now that I have the right cable lengths... now that I have like ALL cable lengths! ^_^ I am going to use the Dark Rose Heather color, because I only have that and black and I don't think black would show the cables very well. If you scroll down on that Wool-Ease page you can see it (#620-139). (It's prettier in person though.)

So I guess that's my big plan for New Year's Eve - sit around and knit with glee. Gosh I'm such a dork. But I'm happy!

I just remembered that I ordered some illuminated poi from Home of Poi earlier this week. Sometimes having a bad memory like mine is fun - super surprises happen all the time! So at any rate, I'm having them shipped to Jon's office because I'm already having the Denise needles shipped here, and I'm not really supposed to get personal deliveries at work at all. I didn't want to have the poi shipped to the house because I don't think the package would fit in the mailbox and I don't want it sitting out on the porch in the snow all afternoon or something... or even stuck between the doors, if it would fit, just doesn't make me comfortable.

They are not only illuminated, they cycle through all the colors of the rainbow, not just one steady color. ^_^ Twee! Pretty excited.

I'm just breathless from the beauty of it. Gotta knit this. Gotta knit this. Yep. Put that on my list for 2006.

If I want to get married in a blue ballroom gown kind of like this:

(only more blue), I wonder how much people would whisper about me...

I think if I wear any kind of gown at all, I want to be married in a blue one. And I want to carry blue hydrangeas and ivory roses if I carry flowers.

Edited to add: Also, I just bought a new titanium nose bone with a lovely sapphire (lookalike) stone - Sapphire for September! I think maybe we will keep the 9/30/06 date after all. ^_^

This week I was unwittingly exposed to a song by the Black Eyed Peas called "My Humps". It's terrible. Easily one of the worst songs I have ever heard. Easily. The lyrics can be found here, and don't worry, the "music" isn't much to write home about. You'll get the gist of it just reading it.

Anyway, the only reason I know this song exists is because AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) has this annoying thing where it sometimes decides I might want to watch a music video, so it pops open a window in itself and starts playing said video, sound and all. It's ultra-annoying. This week, I was subjected to "My Humps". As you have by now read in the lyrics, the song basically goes on and on about the beautiful curves of a woman's body - only it refers to them as "humps" and "lumps." Am I the only one who thinks these words just don't seem right? It occurred to me this afternoon that "hump" makes me think of a hunchback or a camel, and "lump" makes me think of breast cancer.

So this song is about a woman who thinks her hunchback and breast cancer are totally sexy, and the men seem to agree. Yuck.

I wish I could wipe out my brain so I didn't have to know this garbage exists, and that somehow, inexplicably, it's popular with the kids.

I just ate some meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and a fresh bun from the Cafe here at work. It was good. Then I got thirsty, so I went to the coffee station down the hall from my office to get some water. I decided I also wanted some tea, so here's what I did: I got 2 styrofoam cups, and I filled one with hot water and a tea bag, and the other with cold water.

On the short walk back to my office, it occurred to me that in my two hands I embodied right and left, dark and light, hot and cold, flavor and... not? And somehow my brain decided that the tea is female and the cold water is male. It seems to make so much sense right now... I suppose I will read this in a few hours or days and think I was really nuts.

I live at least 5 miles from the nearest Taco John's or White Castle. Taco Bell ain't worth my time, and I don't get cravings for McD's the way I want my White Castle.

This is really starting to bother me. I WANT Taco John's and White Castle, but not enough to drive out of my way to get to them, so I never do. I wish they were more convenient. Especially today, Taco Tuesday (59 cents for a crispy taco, 79 cents for softshell! Mmmm...)

Hmph.

This stamp. When I found it yesterday I just about freaked out. It is EXACTLY what I need.

I don't want to give away too much info, but I will say that it has to do with Burning Man. Tweee!

1) Federal Judge in Pennsylvania struck down Intelligent Design from being taught in public school science classrooms. Hooray for Science! Hooray for the Constitution! But let us all shed a tear for FSMism, for it has also likely been struck down. (T_T)

2) IE7 and the upcoming new version of Outlook are both going to start using the little orange square RSS icon from Mozilla Firefox! Hooray for industry standards! Hooray for Mozilla! (Now if only we can get this stupid HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray thing straightened out once and for all.)

3) I GOT A UKULELE FROM JON LAST NIGHT!!!

4) The MTA in NYC is totally shut down due to an illegal strike. This is hysterically funny only because I am not there.

That is all. Please carry on as you were.

Yippee!! I'm super happy and excited for a few reasons!

Reason #1 is rather private, so I choose not to share it, but please trust me that it is a very good thing. (ETA: It has nothing to do with pregnancy or anything else like that - it's just simply personal.)

Reason #2 is that I got to give Jon a giftmas present that I was really excited to give him!

Reason #3 is that Jon gave me a giftmas present too! And IT'S A UKULELE!!!!! wheeeee!! I've spent quite some time this evening tuning it (and re-tuning and re-tuning! it takes a while before the new strings stop stretching) and playing a little between tunings. I was singing Clementine and he started running the video camera and I got shy and stopped. I don't like being filmed.... But HOORAY! Now I have a piano and an electric keyboard and a guitar and a UKULELE! Yippeeeeeeee!!!!

Next order of business, re-learn to play Tiptoe Thruough the Tulips so I can sing it like Tiny Tim and annoy the living snot out of anyone who dares venture near me and my awesome new ukulele.

I think I should give it a name... it's too cute not to have one...

This morning I skipped breakfast altogether (so far), took my B-vitamins, and am drinking a large mug of cocoa with a splash of vanilla Torani that I found in the cupboard by the coffee machine.

Mentally, I'm feeling OK. Not too foggy. I might still have some oatmeal, but I don't know. The potluck starts in an hour, anyway, so I might just wait for that.

Our annual "Goodie Day Potluck" is kind of fun. Last year, we had over 75 people sign up to bring food. This year, I'm not the receptionist, so I'm not out there harassing people to sign up, and I think we have less than 40 people bringing food. Of course, that figure was from a week ago, and these people are always so intent on doing everything at the last minute. I honestly don't remember how long it took for me to get 75+ people signed up, so maybe we'll have a great turnout again this year.
