Did you know that the traditional name for Bangkok is Krungthep Mahanakhon Bovorn Ratanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokpop Noparatratchathani Burirom Udomratchanivet Mahasathan Amornpiman Avatarnsathit Sakkathattiyavisnukarmprasit? Translates to "City of Angels" apparently, but I suspect it's slightly more complex than that. (Longest. Place name. EVER.)

Did you know there is a Welsh town called Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch? (Longest place name in the UK)

Have you ever heard of Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg in Webster, MA? (Longest place name in the US)

Besides just place names, I have found lots of other cool long words. This link goes to the Wikipedia entry on long words in English. Fun for all!

And I think I want to take a vacation to Krungthep Mahanakhon Bovorn Ratanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokpop Noparatratchathani Burirom Udomratchanivet Mahasathan Amornpiman Avatarnsathit Sakkathattiyavisnukarmprasit just to be able to say that I did... if I ever learn how to say it!

Fascinating... and a little icky. Check it out. Be sure to look at the picture (there's a link to a larger version at the bottom of the page) - if you look really hard, you can find 2 blue-blue links and one pink-pink link!

We need to pick a new last name. Jon and me. We aren't taking my last name, we aren't taking his, and we aren't keeping our own names. We need a new one. But I have NO idea where to even start. He wants something Russian. He is not Russian. He's never been to Russia. We don't have anything Russian in common. I, on the other hand, am part Bulgarian, and very proud of that part of my heritage. He doesn't want any of my family's Bulgarian names. He doesn't even want a Bulgarian name unless it is the same word in Russain.

Yeah, ok, I know he has some strange affinity for things Russian, but what's RUSSIA got to do with ANYTHING? Nothing. Well, except my dad's mom was from a family that was from Germany, but they went to live in Russia for a time before coming to America. The Germans From Russia are a special breed though. Not quite Russian, not really the same as "regular" Germans. Think knoephla. Think Schmeckfest. Mmm.... or anything to do with that German-Russian food. I miss my grandma. :(

And the Russian words that I did look up for Jon, he didn't like. He is asking for translations of pretty complex ideas. Those words are too long. Simpler concepts, the words are too short or not "cool" enough for him or something. Frankly, I don't care what we pick for a last name, as long as its something we can both agree on and be happy with. I just wonder if that will be possible at this rate! lol

Hooray! It's going away for REAL now! The low-carb rhetoric and marketing garbage that was EVERYWHERE is finally waning! Want proof? Just look at these headlines!

I am so happy. I was getting extremely tired of hearing low-carb this and carb-free that. Of course, now this means that we will just be moving on to the next fad. Jon's money is on "Trans Fats" and how bad they are. I agree with him.

Remember, you heard it here first! (Well, maybe not, but whatever.) Watch out for the new Trans-Fat Bashing Fad!

It's OFFICIAL! It's PUBLIC! And I got to tell my PARENTS! That's right, the RING is on my FINGER! (And yes, it's the same as the one I drooled about in this post. (Although I was a little too bedazzled by it at that time, and it really is a lot closer to the one in the picture than I realized! lol #^_^# But it is the SAME one I drooled over in the store last Tuesday.

I promised I'd post pictures of my new moth buddy from Symantec. Here he is! )
Sorry the pictures are not so great. He was up kind of high on the wall, so I had to really reach up with the camera and stuff.

In looking at these again, i'm sure that the pix just don't give the viewer a very good feel for the actual LARGEness of this particular insect, but you'll have to trust me, he's a BEEFY fella!

There is a GIANT moth on the bricks of the building here at Symantec. I took several picures of it. It is 2-3 times the size of a US quarter. OK, so that's not the BIGGEST moth ever, but it is very beautiful. I don't have the means right at this moment, but when I get home tonight, I will upload my pictures so y'all can see.

I was just looking at one of the communities I am a member of here on LJ, and I saw someone who had the SAME hamster-rockstar picture that *I* like to use!!! So for right now, I am switching to a moon. When I'm not being so lazy all the time, I'm going to make my own animated .gif that is totally unique... but for now, I'm lazy. And I don't usually like just using a picture of my face. Boring!

Amber Joy is the epiphany of every parent’s pride and joy.
Amber Joy is a junior nursing major at ACU; Jon is a sophomore architecture major at ACU.
*This is incredible. As most of you know, my s/o is named JON!
Amber Joy is a precious tortie.
Amber Joy is very special to me. :)

At this point I ran out of results, so I just did "Amber is"...

Amber is on the cutting edge with the technology helping to make that a reality.
Amber is like a time capsule made and placed in the earth by nature.
Amber is often imitated by plastics, colored glasses and some modern tree resins.
Amber is from the Dominican Republic and is generally very clear in nature.
Amber is found in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Russia, and occasionally washed up on the shores of the Baltic Sea as far away as Denmark, Norway, and England.
Amber is a San Francisco-based techno and tech-house DJ and producer with a driving beat and aggressively risky mixing technique in a town better known for its laid back house style.
Amber is not well understood.
Amber is a generic one.
Amber is combustible and shows lumineszens under UV-light.
Amber is buoyant in salt water.
Amber is milky and pale under the crust.
Amber is very dense.
Amber is more than fascinating fantasy.

Yes, yes, I know, I did more than 10. I actually had to delete several that just said stuff like, "Amber is fossilized resin" and "Amber is plant resin, not tree sap." What a name.

Check me out, I'm a dork. I put animated Lava Lamp .gif's on my LJ Profile, and I'm HAPPY about it!

LifeGem - they take the carbon ashes of your loved one's remains (or even your DOG) and make them into a man-made diamond. While kind of neat, I just don't think I like the idea of wearing Grandpa around on a pendant!

NO, I DON'T have anything like this, but if I ever DID, it would look a lot LIKE this model, only it would be Platinum (the pic is white gold) and the stones set into the sides of the bezel would be up higher, and the center stone would be set a little lower... kinda more streamlined and cool looking. And the bezel would go all the way around on the sides. Trust me, it'd be super nice. Otherwise, this is a pretty darn good/close representation. Of what I WOULD have if I DID have anything. Which I don't. Seriously. No lie.

CALM DOWN PEOPLE! Nothing to get all excited about. Trust me. You don't see ME getting all whooped up and excited. Cool it!

Sheesh! Some people!

Oh and for Pete's sake, if I DID have anything to say, don't you think I would have said it? You know me - if there's ANYTHING to be said, I can be counted on NOT to keep my mouth shut! Come on, calm down now. Deeeeep, cleansing breath. There, now don't you feel better? You can rest easy, knowing that I definitely do not have a ring like the one in the picture.

^_^ Thank you for your time.

This is a post from [livejournal.com profile] bellapoison's journal. It's pretty funny.

I deleted the last couple quiz results because I was tired of seeing them and I was too lazy to put them behind a <lj-cut>. And I really didn't care much about them.

Actually, I don't really care much about any of those memes that I post. I probably should quit doing them. They just get in the way of my real posts, and kind of annoy me.

Happy Happy Happy Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] lazysoftrain!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you're having a great day and Mike is treating you like the absolute queen of everything! ^_^

One of these days you need to get around to logging into MSN so we can chat, ok? I'm on all day, every day while I'm at work...

I just wanted to do a little follow-up on the story of the man who was arrested for indecent exposure after his bare chest was just too much for the arresting officer. (See this post for more details.)

I just found some mugshots of the offender.
Mugshots )

Well! It looks like this might be a man who is going through some kind of changes... maybe even hormonal changes? It is still unclear as to whether his breasts were natural or implants, but should that matter? If he is still considered a man, and his breasts are considered "offensive" anyway, that means that offensiveness is based only on breast size, and not the sex of the owner. So small-breasted women are off the hook and free to go topless!

(Actually, I don't want to start ranting again... It turns out that it's not even technically illegal for women to go topless in Cincinnatti. I guess this guy's arrest was unfounded no matter WHAT. Not sure how that works, but I like it. I wonder what kinds of laws there are in other states or cities... I know that bare nipples in the context of breastfeeding are 100% exempt from "indecency laws" here in Minnesota - even in public!)

I think I'd like to find out just how permissive various places in the US are regarding breast visibility...

Read the headline. Try not to laugh. I dare you.

***EDIT: Aww, it looks like it was removed. It was an article about a movie, and the headline said, "[Johnny] Depp's Chocolate Factory has Tasty Opening"!!!!!!

I am the 60s. I am the Beatles. I am John Lennon. I am Cow. Actually, it sounds like I am were-cow... judging from these results. )
amberica: (Default)
Behind the cut, you will find that I am a Cowboy, I am M&Ms, and I am Absinthe, the Naughty Little Pony. Clicky to see! )
