I like Urban Red the best right now - matches my red kitchen stuff (and all the retro-red stuff I'm going to register for!)... but I also like Fresco, although not nearly as much.

I think before I make up my mind I should go to the Corelle store in the Albertville mall and look at patterns there, and see what kind of other pieces are available for all patterns.

Then again, I might just keep my Butterfly Gold set for a few years longer. It works just fine, it's nice and neutral, and I grew up with them so they are special to me. Plus I have something like 12 of every size plate, bowl, and cup (my brothers each have a few more settings of the same set), and 2 serving bowls and a nice platter. It's fun to have a relatively complete set of matching dishes, even if they are slightly dated. New "everyday" dishes can always wait.

And I am getting my great-grandmother's beautiful china, anyway. And a hutch to display it in! And my GOOD silverware, which I actually recieved for my high-school graduation, but my mom has kept it in storage for me since I really don't have any use for a fine set of silver anyway. I use the old set that used to belong to Grandma S., and hey, as long as it's all matching, I got no complaints. But I guess it will be nice to have a nice set of china and silver... in case I ever feel like I want to get all fancy and impress company or something.

Jon installed Quicken on our network so we can use it from any of the computers here at home. I plugged in my 2 checking accounts, my money market account in Fargo, and my student loan so far. Then I started poking around because I've never used this program before and was curious to see how it works.

Under "About You" Jon has entered his name, his birthdate, and answered "Are you married?" with YES, and then put my name in as his "spouse" - only with his last name! I thought that was kind of cute. He had also answered "Do you own a home?" with YES. I'm so glad that he is really starting to look forward to the wedding and marriage and is getting excited about it all. What a big sweetie. ^_^ It's making it a lot more fun and easy for me!

It's weird, I can't tell if it seems like a long time or a short time, but 6 months, 6 days is only 190 days. And now that winter is starting to finally wind down, that just leaves spring and summer, at the end of which we will be getting married for real. FOR REAL!!

OK, I just talked to Jon and my Dad between last night and this morning, and I think I might actually do this. I can get married and have my party all on a riverboat! (My dad and I were looking specifically at this one - The Anastasia) If you've never been on a riverboat cruise, they are REALLY fun. I am just a little concerned that the weather might be ugly on September 30th, and half the fun of a riverboat ride is enjoying the beautiful weather from an open upper deck.

But either way, even if the weather is ugly, the reception tables and everything would be set up in an enclosed area of the boat, so it would be manageable.

The other thing I really like about it is that I could just do a nice little 3-hour mid-afternoon reception with some hors d'oeuvres and cake, and then it would be done! No dinner to worry about, no open bar and embarrassing drunks lasting far too late into the night - just a nice fun time!

...that's right, the one I've been agonizing about. (Not so much on my LJ, but more in person and on the phone with family and friends.) Let me refresh your memory with a LINK.
Would you care to read some more agonizing? )

Thursday night up to last night was a total whirlwind of preparations, driving, and activities. I had a super busy, super fun weekend with Inga, Kathryn, and Scott, too! I talked my throat sore and had just the most WONDERFUL time being with the gals all weekend up in Devils Lake, ND. ^_^ I wish I had more opportunity to hang out with more of my college friends more often... but I guess this is just adult life. My mom gets to see her best friend once a year or less, so I guess I've done OK so far. Brief recap of my weekend and other random stuff )

It's interesting, I'll give it that... but isn't it suspiciously a lot like a horoscope? I only had to answer two questions.

/skeptical (haha, how fitting)

But anyway, here's what I got:

This is the house Jon likes: Clicky

We drove by this on Sunday. It's a beautiful area, very "nature-y" and stuff. I think Jon is most gung-ho about the 4-stall garage - hah. I think he is going to email this to Angela so we can look inside it next weekend.

A few things concern me about it, though. It is older - most of the other houses we've seen have been built in the 90s, with a few in the 70s or 80s, too. It is in Forest Lake, MN, and we used the odometer on the way home to find out that it is about 25 miles from my work. Bleh. Yes, I know plenty of people commute into the cities from much further away than that, and I won't be at this job forever anyway, but it would still take a lot of getting used to. According to Google, the CLOSEST Target store is 10 miles away from Forest Lake. AAAUGH!! What would I do without a Target every 2 blocks?!? I don't know if I could survive!

The good news is that Jon is very handy around the house, of course, and would be able to do a lot of maintenence and fixing-up if necessary, which would save a lot of money if repairs had to be done... I really liked the gigantic 2-level deck overlooking the pond and golf course... I don't really like all those trees that were around it, but at least they were not totally crowding the house and "yard" - I have to put it in quotes because 2.8 acres is a little more than a "yard" - heheh.

Well, I'll be eager to see what it's like inside. Will probably mention something about it next week.

Just this week, it was in the mid-50s and even a little spring rain fell! We got a light thundershower on Saturday morning, I have been going out with little more than a light jacket, and all the snow had disappeared! Most of it was already gone for a few weeks already, but it was starting to really really feel and smell like spring was coming.

This morning, I heard Jon open the front and back doors, utter a few obscenities, and then yell from the kitchen, "Amber! You better look out the window!!"

Oh. My. God.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!...??? )

I heard a noise at about 5:00 this morning and thought the cats were up to no good. I got up and told the cats to keep it down (although I now think that the noise I heard was their water fountain gurgling from the water level getting too low), and then I went back to bed where I had some WEIRD dreams!

I dreamed that someone implanted rabbit fetuses into female goats, so the fetuses took on characteristics of both animals. The rabbit-goats were weird looking and a little ugly. They got loose and bred like mad and ate up the whole French countryside, but were too clever to be caught. They wrecked all plant life.

I also dreamed about being in a battlefield. I think it was World War I. It was ugly.

I don't remember what else I dreamed about, but there was a lot of strangeness.

WHY do I keep doing these things? I really prefer to keep my LJ limited to, you know, CONTENT.

OK, just a shameless plug of my Knitting Blog here. I refrain from posting any knitting-related content in my LJ anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't want all my friends to stop caring about my favorite hobby involving sticks and strings!

Go see what I've been up to! Make suggestions! Want me to knit you something? I'll do it! (Just as soon as I get around to it!) ~_^

Maybe I should wear a gold-colored dress... or a rust one.

Frick I hate this crap!!! It's sounding like we are back on track for Sept. 30th this year... but what does "on-track" really mean if I can't book a venue in time?! I don't really care too much about the ceremonial costume, but a gal here at work told me that she didn't really care either when she got married, but now looking back, those pictures very very special to her, so she's glad she did wear something beautiful.

ACK I HATE THIS CRAP! I AM SO NOT CUT OUT FOR WEDDING PLANNING CRAP CRAP CRAP AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT IT IS!!! CRAP!

"English doesn't borrow from other languages. English follows other languages down dark alleys, knocks them over, and goes through their pockets for loose grammar."

It's so funny, but I can't seem to find WHO came up with it... :(

A couple weeks ago, I had an Altoid in my mouth, and I took a sip of root beer and accidentally swallowed the Altoid whole! I was really unhappy about that, because I was enjoying the Altoid, and I didn't want to get out a whole new one.

I saw a dress at the mall this weekend that literally took my breath away - I just stood there and gasped when I saw it in the shop window. I went in to look at the price while Jon was in a neighboring Poker Shop.

Dammit.

My taste is just too damn good. The dress was $1500.

Oh well. Maybe I'll find something similar some other time. But I'm still cranky.

I have heard that people in England eat all kinds of CRAZY things on their pizza - like eggs or something. Well I went to the UK website for Domino's, and the only weird things I found were one pizza that included corn on it (along with a whole bunch of other, more "normal" toppings), and one that was called Domino's Tandoori Hot® - where the toppings were Tandoori chicken, onions, mushrooms, green peppers, and jalapeno peppers. Now THAT sounds good. But I guess we won't ever get it here because Indian food isn't nearly as popular as it is over there. But I bet it would be super awesome yummy good!

Maybe smaller, more funky pizza places have more weird toppings... but I can find those in NYC. I had eggplant pizza out there! Yummm!! It was like eggplant parmesan on a pizza crust. ^_^

I want to go to England and order Domino's now.

Hooray!!!!

OK, two things.

  1. I think I am in love with FlyLady, or at least mildly obsessed with her awesome household cleaning and organizing tips! Such great stuff! And it's FREE! There's something good for everyone on there.

  2. I was just notified by my boss that there have been "market adjustments" in my department, and my position is one of those affected. My first thought? "Oh, crap." But then he told me that it's good! And BAM, just like that, I got a raise! And it's a nice one, too... just over 8.5%! It actually went into effect last week, on the 16th of February, so I should see it on my March 15th paycheck. (We get paid every month on the 15th and the last day of the month.)

HOORAY for FlyLady! HOORAY for Corporate America!

I went to the 5th poi class out of 8 last night. It was so much fun (as always)!! I actually missed the 3rd class a couple weeks ago because the weather was getting kind of icky and I didn't want to drive into Minneapolis if the roads were going to be icy. I'm kind of sad that I missed it, but oh well. What's really funny is that every Thursday evening, after I get home from work, I feel so exhausted and just want to stay home for the night, but then I force myself to put on my shoes and coat again, and pick up my poi and go into the city, and then I ALWAYS have a TON of fun! I have to always remind myself that even if I don't feel like going right away, I'm going to have an awesome time with my poi and all my new friends. I really love it.

I don't know what I'm going to do when the classes end... I'm going to have to really force myself to keep practicing and playing on my own. I really do want to keep getting better and learning new things, and it's such a great fun workout! I think one of these days I'm going to have to go to one of the Spin Jams they always have going on around the area.
