It's The Me! Yep.

I like the Rockstar Hamster, but I wanted a change of pace for a little while.

Yesterday morning I found this pattern. (PDF file, opens in new window.) At lunch, I grabbed some of my cheap yarn from Target and a couple needles to bring back to work. Later in the afternoon, when things were pretty quiet around the office, I gave it a try.

It was AWESOME! Super easy! If I'd known lace was this simple, I would have started it long ago. You could definitely see the little leaves in the pattern.

So.

I was really happy about this. Swung by JoAnn to get some yarn for "the real deal" and went home to start making the scarf for my mom. Here's what happened )

Grr. I waited excitedly all night for little Trick-or-Treaters to come to my door and only got 4 (And then one last call later on).

On Friday night I started (and got within a few rows of finishing) the first wristwarmer. On Saturday morning I finished it and whipped out the mate. Jon pointed out that wristwarmers might be a misnomer, since they cover an awful lot of my hands. I guess they are technically fingerless mittens, but I actually prefer calling them gauntlets.
FO Pix ^_^ )

I wore my wristwarmers in a 9-hour meeting at work today. I was shocked, shocked at what an awesome difference they made. That particular conference room often has an awful chill, but I felt a ton better just wearing these silly things. Also, and this is the best part, they allowed me to type a lot better on my laptop during the meeting because they prevented the heels of my hands from activating the touchpad and making my cursor jump all over the page when I was typing. It was AWESOME. I am going to make a bunch of these in different colors and styles I think.

Halloween Stuff:
Today is Halloween! One of my favorite "holidays" and always a fun one... well, when you put a little effort into it. (Sadly, I didn't this year. No costume, no decoration, and we only got like 4 trick-or-treaters.) What am I going to do with 2 bags worth of candy??? It'll last until next spring! Oh well.

OK. OK. ok ok ok ok ok. The website is ALMOST up, I swear. This is not my fault! It's all dependant on Jon doing the Port Forwarding Thang, seriously!!! And that just hasn't happened yet! But he said something about it last night when I was cooking supper, so I didn't really hear everything he said, but the fact that he brought it up is a good sign. Trust me on this. And now I am going to rant about the LAN Party that I live in.
Ready, set, GO! )

Kinda one of those days where I almost wish I could die on the spot, but that would be worse because then I'd fall behind and the schedule would get even worse.

Busy busy busy busy busy. Hell. ACK. Will post more later. Still in the office. But going C-R-A-Z-Y.

Someone on one of my knitting forums was asking about whether needles are now permitted on airplanes, and if certain types of needles (aluminum as opposed to plastic) might still be prohibited. Another person helped out by posting a link to the latest listing of Permitted and Prohibited items. If I ever fly and want to bring knitting along with me, I will bring a printout of it to show any security personnel who might not know the rules and try to take my needles away.

I used to think I liked Virgin Marys (Can't stand vodka, so Bloody Mary is out of the question.)

It turns out what I actually like is just V8 and Worcestershire sauce. I could go without the rest. Although celery salt sure is nice sometimes. But I really just like V8 and Worcestershire the most. As in, I would not like to drink one without the other.

Sometimes I drink V8 all by itself. But it's always much better with Worcestershire Sauce.

Tomato juice doesn't cut it. I like the full V8 blend of tomatoes, carrots, celery, beets, parsley, lettuce, watercress, and spinach. Tasty.

Ever had Clamato? It's a tomato-clam-juice blend. Not as bad as you'd think. Quite flavorful, actually, but I never buy it. I think because I'm not used to buying it. And I can never remember exactly what it tastes like, so I'm always afraid to get a whole bottle in case I don't like it as much as I thought I did.

EDIT: And apparently Clamato is more popular as a mixer than as a drink on its own. So maybe I'll never drink it much. Eh.

This morning, on the way to work, I stopped at the 5-way intersection a few blocks from my house. When I started to go again, turning left, I noticed a woman in a minivan approaching the intersection directly across from me. She was approaching it really fast, mouth wide open (laughing) and applauding. No hands on wheel. For all I know her eyes were closed. She had glasses and kinda sad-looking 80s hair. She did stop at the stop sign, but it was abrupt. Then she stopped clapping and put her hands on the wheel.

There was no one in the car with her. I doubt the radio could hear or appreciate her applause.

Last night I made Hamburger Helper. Sue me. It was quick and I was in "no mood" to be cooking for real. It was some kind of cheeseburger macaroni something-or-other.

I looked at it. I smelled it. I considered slicing pickles onto it. I opted for Worchestershire sauce. It wasn't that bad. It wasn't like a super flavor taste sensation, like Frank's RedHot, but it was OK. There is plenty of leftover Hamburger Helper. Tonight I will slice some pickles onto it.

My pirate name is:

Captain Anne Read

Even though there's no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you're the one in charge. Even through many pirates have a reputation for not being the brightest souls on earth, you defy the sterotypes. You've got taste and education. Arr!

Get your own pirate name from fidius.org.

I want to be a Pirate. I want to be a KNITTING PIRATE. I want more pirate-related knitting patterns besides wristwarmers and felted bags. YARRRGH!

Wow. This is a very interesting study.

I wonder how much merit there is to this theory...

Maybe it would be a good idea to change all the gym classes to something more like this model.

Sockies

I went to the first of a 2-session sock (knitting) class last night. It was very nice, fun, and relaxing! The class consisted of just 3 people - myself, [livejournal.com profile] onewomanshow, and another gal who was in the mittens class that I missed. And Trish, the instructor, of course.

I finally learned how to do a figure-8 cast on, which is GREAT, because I had seen instructions for it online but never really "got it" until Trish showed us how. It took a couple tries to get it right, and then I decided to start over when I accidentally twisted some weird stitch beyond where I wanted to try to salvage it, and I kind of cast on "backwards" - kind of. It's hard to explain. Basically I did it so that instead of knitting into the back of the stitches on the TOP needle, I did those regular and knit into the backs of the BOTTOM stitches. It went all fine and dandy, but then when I had gotten some length worked up, I went back to tighten up all the initial toe stitches and there was a goofy little hole at the end of the cast-on row! I can only assume it's because I did that backwards cast-on. I was just going to patch it when I wove in the yarn end, but then later I realized that I had been doing several increases on the wrong end of one of my non-heel needles and half the top side of the toe was funny-looking. Oh it was functional and ok, but I didn't like the way the rows were not lined up symmetrically, so I decided to frog it again and start all over.

Then I dreamed all night about figure-8 casting on. LOL

I will begin again tonight, and should do fine now that I got the hard parts figured out. Lucky I didn't get too far in the first place, because I hate getting really far only to find that I have no choice but to destroy all the hard work I did becuase I did something ridiculously wrong. This was short and easy though, and the new things I've learned are definitely worth the little bit of extra time.

Hooray for socks! I will post pictures once I get started again. (Probably just starting with pics of a few inches of toe, and then more as I get further along.)

After I successfully finish my first pair of socks, I will do mittens. Actually, I've already just started the "training mitt" from Knitty (Mittens 101 found here), so we'll see how that goes. If it's not too hard, I'll dive right into full-size ones even if the socks are NOT done. Also, Tia gave me the pattern they used in her mittens class (it's different than the Knitty one) and I want to see if that one really is easier than Knitty's. She says it was super easy, and Knitty makes it look more complicated than it has to be.
